Caracas - The crazy capital
Though I have a relatively limited
experience from developing countries, it seems to be generally true that the
capital cities have lots of social problems. This holds for countries like
China, the Philippines, Thailand - and unfortunately also for Venezuela.
However, the location of Caracas can hardly be beaten, as I comment on below. However, it is recommended to stay away from certain
areas of the city, even during the day. |
| On a positive note, I must
admit that Caracas is beautifully situated on or close to mountains, though
it is also close to the sea. The capital actually turns pretty at night,
when the poor ranchos light up the hills as stars in the sky....
My trip to Venezuela was not exactly well planned, and I had big problems
deciding where to go in South-America. Luckily, my friend Marines, who lives
in Caracas, volunteered to help me adjust to Venezuela and helped me learn
some Spanish. She also invited me to her university, Universidad
Metropolis, and let it be known to the entire world; Girls in Venezuela are
hot! |
