La Grande Sabana The
site of movies such as Jurassic Park and Arachnophobia,
the southeastern part of Venezuela should be known to most moviegoers. The
best way to see the area is to leave on a trip from St. Elena, a small town
situated close to the Brazilian boarder. I went on a guided trip from Puerto
Ordaz, but later discovered this to be a very expensive option. |
| The Sabana's foremost attraction are the
tepuis, or
table mountains as they are known in English (above picture).
Because of their peculiar shapes, the tepuis have managed to preserve
incredible ecosystems that do not exist anywhere else on the planet. The
Grand Sabana does in addition have numerous waterfalls, as the left picture
of Salto Aponguao (105m) bears witness of. I could post more pictures
of La Grand Sabana, but as pictures can not sufficiently describe the
grandeur of the landscape, why bother? |
