Los Llanos Los Llanos is
an amazing area in southwestern Venezuela, and it can only be reached on
guided tours, primarily from the Andean tourist-town of Merida. A 4-Day tour
(3 nights) with Guamanchi Expeditions cost 140 USD, and included food and
accommodation. I heard mainly positive things about all the agencies
operating from Merida, so either one should be fine. |
| I ended up with a rather large group of
people; Susan, Fenneke, Mark & Lianne, Michou & Anton and yours truly. For
some reason, I ended up being the only one not speaking Dutch, but everyone
was accommodating and translated for me once in a while. The first day is
spent driving to Los Llanos. We left around 8 AM from Merida, and did
not arrive at our camp before sunset. Though the drive was fun - I got
to see some caymans (small crocodiles) and an anaconda) - it was not very
comfortable. If I were rich, I would probably have taken a tour leaving from
Caracas, but they are known to cost more than 100 bucks a day! |

A final word before we go on to the actual
attractions; Everything is rather primitive in Los Llanos. We slept in
hammocks, and did not have electricity or hot showers. It might, in other
words, not be a dream vacation to most feminine girlfriends. The food,
though, was good, though repetitive. This all said, there are plenty
of reasons why one should consider making a trip to Los Llanos. |
