Palm La Isla Margarita
Palm Palm

Okay, I am cheating a little bit. This picture was actually taken in Puerto La Cruz, a horrible city to the east of Caracas (5 hours or so by bus).  The ocean is too polluted to swim in, but ferries bound for Margarita depart the city's ferry terminal several times a day. It cost 6000 Bs for the cheapest ticket one-way. I met Phil and Mary at the ferry terminal, a very nice couple from London who accepted to hang out with me for a couple of days (in exchange for money, of course). We played some card games, which I lost, and drank quite a bit of Polar Beer. Later, we actually met up in Merida, but I did unfortunately get a good picture of Mary to post. This picture is from Pompatar, a small town situated around 15 minutes from Porlamar (the capital of Margarita). There is not much to do on Margarita, expect from lazing on the beach, but the sea pelicans certainly kept us entertained. Phil told me he wants to become one when he grows up, and that is of course a good dream to have.
