| On this trip, which goal
was to travel from Asia to Europe by rail, I first flew Pakistan Airlines
from Tokyo to Beijing. It certainly was a funfilled trip with Muslim
chants before taking off and total absence of alcohol onboard. I therefore
recommend all future passengers of Pakistan Airlines to bring either
sufficient amounts of alcohol or drugs, this as heavy usage might make one
ignore the scary noises made by the 30 year old
planes. |

Narita Airport, Tokyo, just before the plane makes yet
another incredible attempt at taking off. |
| Tiananmen Square is a great place, but
perhaps a garden or something would make a better place to hang out. Yet,
Beijing is sort of like a Chinese Disneyland, this even though the only
similarity is that you want to burn the place down when leaving. A guy who
once threw some tomatoes on Mao's picture got several years in prison; God
bless China. |

Lee, Adam, Jan, Mao and DanDan.
Perhaps Mao was not very nice at some stage, but at least it is not
politically incorrect to think he was pretty cool. After all, if you kill
millions of people (who even happen to be of your own nationality), and
still manage to retain popularity, you must be good for
something. |
| Lee, a friend of DanDan, who is again
a friend of Jan, took us out to a great Chinese restaurant. It has the
best food you are likely to get anywhere in Beijing, or most of Asia for
that sake. The fun part is that a meal probably cost more than an average
Chinese makes in a year. Eat, then enjoy making fun of the proletariat
afterwards. That's what Mao would have done. |

Expensive Chinese restaurant, situated next to other
expensive stuff. |
| My travel companion; Adam Beattie. |
 |
Being one of the few Americans to have
ventured out to several foreign countries, not to say other states, Adam
was a great travel companion for the several weeks we spent on the tracks
or roads. Usually being pissed at other aspects of life than your so ever
loyal Jan, he also knew how to enjoy cheap Chinese beer before getting
sick due to the horrible air pollution of Beijing. And one more thing;
let's hope he marries
Asian. |
