October 25, 2000:
I am trying to update this page once a week, and guess it should not be necessary to do it more often, this as no one reads this stuff anyway. Well, I know my girlfriend checks it out, and that my friend Andrea here at UPenn proof-reads. Still, I will keep on bothering this planet with all my rambling. Today's addition will be a rather serious one, this in contrast to last week's journal that went totally overboard. Yesterday, I had two midterms, and in the evening I went to a presentation of Goldman Sach's Tokyo Office. Will get back to that in a second, but first to the Babe of the Week:
Tori Spelling, known from Beverly Hills 90210, is evidently a pretty nasty young lady. She is not particularly bright either, and it is fairly unlikely she would have accounted for much if her dad hadn't been who he is. The same goes for Upenn, into which it is very easy to get accepted if your name is Goldman, Sachs or J.P Morgan, but strangely enough not if your name is McDonalds. Anyway, I want to thank my friend Dan for sending me this classy picture. Not only is Tori's hair more beautiful than ever, but her dress was obviously also made to fit. If you click to the see the larger version of the picture, you can also see more clearly the empty McDonald's chips package lying on the floor. The image is so powerful, it could make any Wharton woman turn straight! |
Anyhoo, I spent the entire weekend studying. Yesterday I had two midterms, one in management and another in American history. The latter consisted of rather easy questions, so the test turned out to be a writing contest. Whoever wrote the most, probably wins the A. I think American history is a rather difficult class, this as I have no background in the subject. However, considering that I do all the readings, I should at least be able to get a descent grade
Management is a different story, this even though it probably is one of my easier classes. It is basically a class about nothing, with some political correctness added as spice. We look at numbers saying that while garbage picking is a male dominated profession, nursing is dominated by women. For some reason, way beyond my comprehension, this is, if not sexist, wrong. Also, African Americans do, to a much larger extent than whites, have a dark skin colour. This is another issue we have discussed to great length in my management class, and we have reached the conclusion that Asians are to blame.
