| Early this year, I attended an international student camp in Shibuya with other students from Sophia University. It was a lot of fun, and I even met a girl whom I had the pleasure of dating for some time (Natsuko, to the very left in the picture). | Here is a picture from Meiji shrine in Tokyo, where the chances always are good for observing a wedding. The costume worn by the bride has inspired many Star Wars movies. |

| In a late winter month, I went skiing with my host family. Although the weather was not great on the day we arrived, this picture shows that the following day was really excellent. | For the first time in my life, I tried snowboarding. We all attended a quick course, though it did not help me much. |

| One of the best things about living in Japan are the occasional visits to a ryokan. The food is excellent, so are the hot springs. | Okay, back to snowboarding. In this picture I appear to have given up. My host brother, Tokuro, is to my left. |

| If I had started snowboarding earlier on, I am sure I could have learned how to do it. Now, however, I have to admit that I am without any trace of talent. | My parents came to visit me in September. My mother did not leave my apartment on the first day due to a cold, but my father was up to the challenge. This picture is taken in front of the imperial palace. |

| On a day we did not have much planned, I took my parents to see Rikugien Gardens in Tokyo. Located not far from Ikebukuro, it is hard to believe that this picture was taken in the middle of the city! | My host parents invited us to a ryokan, and we had an excellent time together. My host father's sister, and her husband, joined us as well. |
