While the main purpose of my trip to Gifu Prefecture was to visit my friend's wedding, Yuka and I also took time to stop by a few sights. While this is an area of Japan that most foreigners would not visit, I had a good excuse to check it out. |

Yakushima (Yaku Island) was designated as Japan first UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993. The island's natural environment is unlike anything I had ever seen before. When living in Tokyo, it is easy to forget that Japan possesses such beautiful places as Yakushima. |

Shikoku's economy is larger than South-Korea, and has a population of 4,200,000 people. Being the last major island in Japan that I have not visited, I decided to travel there for a long weekend in July. My goal was to see Shimanto-gawa, Japan's last undammed river. |
