Since the weather in Norway was horrible during the summer of 2007, my sister and I decided to fly south to find the sun in Rome.  It was extremely hot in Rome during July, but we had a great time.  The above picture is from Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore, one of the major basillicas in Rome. On our arrival day, we also stumbled upon Michaelangelo's "Moses", which is located in The Church of St Peter in Chains (San Pietro in Vincoli).  I know absolutely nothing about art, but this is apparently a rather famous statue.

Rome's Leonardo da Vinci airport is located just a short distance outside the city, at least compared to Tokyo's Narita airport, and as we had a morning flight we were able to see many sights on our first day in Rome. The Colosseum is probably the most famous tourist attraction in Rome, here you can see it in the background from the Palatine Hill.  While there were about 1 billion tourists in Rome, joining a somewhat expensive tour allowed us to bypass all the lines.

The Palatine Hill is a major tourist attraction by itself, and is where Rome has its origins.  Of the one billion daily visitors to the Colosseum, only a small portion bother  to visit this nearby attraction, which also provides great views of the Colosseum. Yet again from inside the Colosseum.  Our guide spoke a type of Italian English that I did not quite understand, but I assume everything I saw in "Gladiator" is historically accurate.  Life is more interesting that way.
