A picture of the funicular railway that goes up to the top of the mountain from the abbey. A picture from the top of Montserrat mountain.

The name "Montserrat" literally means "jagged mountain", and you can clearly see from the above and below pictures why it got this name. Yuka enjoying the scenery from Montserrat mountain.

Another picture of the Benedictine abbey with the mountain in the background. Safely back in Barcelona, we visited La Sagrada Familia (The Holy Family), the infamous Roman Catholic basilica that is still under construction - incredible when you remember that the project started in 1883.

A picture from the the Nativity scene on the eastern façade, which was highly influenced by the basilica's original designer, Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí The western Passion façade shows emaciated figures of Christ being flogged and on the crucifix.
