Merry Christmas

Reading Newspaper
(Yokohama, Summer 04')
This year ended with a disaster, with more than 100,000 people dead following an earthquake and an ensuing tsunami.  Crazy Muslims have been blowing up everyone and everything in Iraq all year, though I think the Beslan school hostage crisis in September takes the prize for the least understandable disaster of the year.

Somehow, I feel lucky not to have encountered any suicide bombers or tsunamis this year.  The new year will hopefully be equally unventful for all of us.

I am still working for an American accounting firm, and I mainly deal with Japanese and American individual taxes.  Following the busiest part of the tax season, Yuka and I traveled to Kuching in Malaysia.  I found Borneo extremely interesting on my first visit in 1999, and I had wanted to go back ever since.  We did some jungle trekking.  In addition, I managed to get sunburned, developed a few skin diseases, ruined my stomach, and have generally been mentally unstable since returning to Japan.

Norway & England
(Norway, July 04')
I returned to Norway during the summer, and also went on a short trip to Liverpool.  Although I enjoy talking crap about my home country, Norway has quite a few natural sights worth visiting.  If the cost of traveling was not so high, I would recommend you all to visit.  Anyway, check out the pictures, and you will know what I mean.

Also, I traveled somewhat extensively in Japan during 2004.  The highlight was a trip to Yakushima, Japan's first UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Finally, I really enjoyed seeing many of you on my short visit to New York in September.  Unfortunately, I did not have time to meet everyone, and it was all a bit rushed.  I had a really good time, though, and want to thank you all for taking the time to meet me.

Otherwise, I hope you will give me advance notice if you plan on coming to Japan.  The sushi here is as tasy as ever.

Finally, I found an interesting message to those of you who get offended when someone wishes you a merry Christmas. The funniest tv-series I have seen this year is definitively "The Office", and speaking of British comedy, the movie "Shaun of the Dead" managed to make zombies pretty entertaining.

Have a Merry Christmas and a Propsperous 2005!

Best regards, Jan (Einar)
