Sakura - Cherry Blossoms!
- Tokyo and Saitama (March/April, 2003)

Part 1 Part 2
Sakura is evidently the Japanese name for cherry blossoms, and in April I discovered why my mansion is named Sakura Mansion!  As you can see, the cherry blossom tree is in full bloom outside my apartment building. Sophia University in Tokyo is evidently one of most prestigious academic institutions in the country, yet the school is also known for its cherry blossom lane outside of its main campus.

April and May are undoubtedly two of the most enjoyable months in Japan, and the cherry tree blossoming is considered the start of spring. Although this picture is a bit dark, it shows sunset over Shinjuku as seen from Yotsuya.

In April, Yuka and I went to Ranzan in Saitama to enjoy a day out of Tokyo. Evidently, it is very hard to find a place to be alone outside of Tokyo, but I was still very happy to see such a beautiful river.

We found this great sakura tree standing all by itself out on a grass field.  Although the blooming period was over in Tokyo, these cherry blossom trees in Saitama were still in full bloom. I tried to eat some of the cherry blossom tree, but the taste was not very enjoyable.
