Nagatoro - National Park in Saitama!
- May & June, 2003

I feel that I look unreasonably ugly in this picture, probably even less attractive than goalkeeper Kahn.  The attractive scenery is that of Nagatoro, part of a national park in Saitama prefecture. Apart from kayaking, rafting is another popular sport offered by several companies in the area.  For about fifty dollars, you can take part in a crazy trip down the river.

Well, crazy might be an exaggeration, but please understand that this was the first time for me to go rafting.  Also, considering that Nagatoro can be visited in about 2.5 hours from Tokyo, the area is somewhat more accessible than for example Australia. I found it much more challenging to go down the river by kayak.  We were joined by a some Canadians and some random Japanese when we went rafting, and together we had a tremendous time.

In addition to outdoor activities, most people visit the area to enjoy the beautiful Nagatoro metamorphic rocks. While they can not really be seen in the last picture, Yuka here stands in front of some of rocks that have been designated a National Monument.

Here is a picture of Yuka and myself before going rafting. To take up even more space, here is yet another picture.
