Mount Fuji - Japan's Highest Mountain!
- Kanagawa Prefecture (August 22-23, 2003)

Part 1 Part 2
Please do not be too surprised.  There are in fact vending machines at the top of Mount Fuji. A picture from the very top.  It was very cold and windy up there, thus we were excited about the prospect of walking back down.

I bough an expensive Mont Belle gortex outfit in Tokyo before climbing, but I did not think too much about the price after climbing for a while. In addition to the relatively cold temperatures towards the top, the wind is also very strong.  Along with my gortex outfit, I brought some Norwegian chocolate to ease the pain.
Since a couple of hundred thousand people climb the mountain in two months, you can not expect to be alone on the mountain.  We walked in line for most of the way, thus it is somewhat reminiscent of a mountain version of Disneyland. A final picture of the great view from the mountain.
Andreas is here standing in front of the volcanic crater on the top of the mountain.  Mount Fuji, being a volcano, last erupted in 1707. I arrived back down at the fifth station around 10:30 AM, and was both dead tired and exhausted.  I am happy to have climbed the rock once.  In the future, I will be satisfied to stare at it from a distance.
