Mount Fuji - Japan's Highest Mountain!
- Kanagawa Prefecture (August 22-23, 2003)

Part 1 Part 2
3776 meters high, Mount Fuji is Japan's highest mountain.  Close to 200,000 people do the climb during the two month long official climbing season (July-August).  There are many mountain huts along the trail that allow you to rest for a small fee.  Ohta-san, seen sleeping in this picture, took advantage of this on the way down. I climbed the mountain with Andreas, Mark, and Ohta-san.  Starting around 11 PM from at the fifth station on the northern side (2305 m), we reached the top just before sunrise.

Some random pictures of the sunrise.  Some are taken by me, others by my fellow mountaineers. More sunrise.

Even more sunrise.  The sun took a break for this one. The view from Mount Fuji can be awesome from Mount Fuji, in particular of the lakes surrounding the mountain.

Pictures of stars are difficult to take and somewhat unnecessary, but it should be mentioned that the view at night from Mount Fuji was as beautiful as the view after sunrise. Okay, head on to part 2.  This should be enough sunrise pictures for a few days.
